Acceptance

Daily writing prompt
Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

There’s this phrase they use in AA, from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous: “Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.” I’d say more than anything, that’s a phrase that I’ve adopted for my own and one that I live by. But let’s talk about what acceptance does and does not mean.

Acceptance is:

Freeing

A way to move forward (because we can only change things that we’ve accepted to be true)

The step that comes after awareness

The way to achieve serenity in life

Acceptance is not:

Liking something

It’s not approval

Being a doormat

It doesn’t mean I can’t make changes in my life

Acceptance, for me, is the only way that I can have serenity and be less reactive in my day-to-day life. It is a way of saying “it is what it is.” By acknowledging what is, I can choose how and if I want to respond at all. I can be more intentional with my life. It works for me. ๐Ÿ™‚
