How does your mindset affect your financial success?

For me, a healthy financial mindset is the one in which financial freedom surpasses instant gratification. So whatever gets me to that point, and is also sustainable, meaning I can do it over and over, without too much effort. That means not wasting money on things like daily coffees, lunches out, and stopping for something quick on the way home. It means not spending a lot on things like clothes, shoes, and jewelry. It’s a trade-off, so I can save and spend consciously on other things.
But back to the food, because that’s one of my biggest bills, along with our house. Granted, I don’t cook fancy, complicated recipes. Everything I make these days is pretty quick, aside from baking. But at the end of a long day, stopping for a bag of salad and a rotisserie chicken (or some equivalent) would be easier!
Over time, those chickens add up. I remember looking over my spending one time for the previous month, and the amount of money I had spent on food (either groceries or lunch/dinner out) was so much I was appalled. That was one of those months where there were a couple big birthday dinners, special occasions and such. Still, I couldn’t believe it.
It helped me to be more mindful. So in that moment where, yeah I’m exhausted, and I’d rather stop for something easy on the way home than get home and cook something, I can just keep on driving. And keep that hard-earned money in my bank account.
It helps!
What keeps you from getting sidetracked financially? How do you keep on driving when it would be easier to order some pizza??? I’d love to hear from you! And if you like what I write, please subscribe. Thank you. π
