Words I Should Have Said… Things I Should Have Done

Daily writing prompt
Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

Have you ever gotten close to someone, and for any number of reasons, they were suddenly gone from your life but you didn’t get to say goodbye?

Sometimes it happens…

There are people I think of over the past few years that I’ve taken care of more times than I can count. And suddenly (or maybe not so suddenly) they stop coming, and I don’t get to say goodbye.

I don’t get a chance to give them or their spouse a hug.

I don’t get to ask them how they are doing, because I didn’t have the time.

In hindsight, it’s easy to see when and where I could have said or done something differently. In the moment, we don’t always know that that moment might be the last one we share with a person.

So these days I make an extra effort. Even if it’s to give someone a wave, or to just make eye contact and smile. To stop and talk with them for a minute.

People need that connection. And I get it. Everyone’s busy. We’re all busy. But we’ve got to make time for each other. Because we never know when that moment may be the last.
