Understanding

Daily writing prompt
What’s something most people don’t understand?

“What’s something most people don’t understand?”

Something most people don’t understand is how much things can change in an instant.

Or maybe it’s more like people choose not to recognize this. It’s easier to think that “it will never happen to me.”

I see a lot of patients on a weekly basis who are getting treated for cancer or anemia or who need antibiotics for weeks on end.

And it seems like most people don’t realize how quickly the human body can go from doing its thing, and behaving, to just, not.

We go about our days, complaining about work and the weather, taking care of our family and worrying about chores and the bills, and what to cook for dinner.

But there are no guarantees in this world. And what we have today could very well change tomorrow.

I’m guilty of this too. I forget sometimes that it could happen to me. I could wake up tomorrow with some symptom that leads me to a doctor visit that leads me to a scary diagnosis.

All this to say that I try not to take things for granted, like my health, my home, my loved ones. Because it really can all change in an instant.
