“Good evening, would you care for something to talk about?”
There’s this line from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, where a couple is sitting down at dinner, and their waiter comes up and asks if they’d like something to talk about.
They choose, from their menu of topics, to talk about the meaning of life. After a minute or so, they get into philosophers. The wife literally says, “Does Nietzsche begin with an ‘S’?”
She says: “Do all philosophers have an ‘S’ in them?”
After a minute or so, the husband says to the waiter that their conversation isn’t very good. It’s such a good skit.
My knowledge of philosophers is about on par with those two. I don’t know much about them! But if I had to choose one to talk to, I’d pick either Schopenhauer (because he made it to Monty Python skits), Nietzsche (see previous philosopher), or one of the classic philosophers like Socrates.
But what would you even say?
Hey, how are you today?
What do you think about life and its meaning?
Do you want to try some pizza?
Where would you take your philosopher to dinner? That’s the bigger question. Would you take them to a fast-food place and let them know where the food actually comes from (would they even eat it??) or would you take them somewhere nice with locally-sourced produce?
Where would you take your philosopher? I’d love to hear from you! And if you like what I write, please subscribe, thanks 🙂
