I love classics. They are a lot meatier than many modern books out there. They’ve got substance. They stick with you. Give you something to think about.
There’s classics I’ve read years ago that I still think about from time to time. Some of my favorite authors are the Brontes and Thomas Hardy. I really love American classics, especially Southern gothic books from the likes of Flannery O’Connor and Carson McCullers. Raymond Carver is up there too. Shirley Jackson.
But one book I read that I felt was super overrated was Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I think it was because it had been hyped up by so many people and what I was expecting was something other than what it was.
That book has its fans. I’m just not one of them. 😛
