What were your parents doing at your age?
When my parents were in their early 50s, they were doing pretty much the same things I’m doing- working, being active in their activities that they’d put on hold while raising kids, getting involved with hobbies. But something that they were doing that I am not is being a grandparent. I don’t know that I’ll have grandkids- maybe one day- but for now, I am loving this time of my life, to have more time to focus on my career and get back to things that I used to love, like music and writing.
Something I did differently from my parents was to go back to school in my 40s, getting my nursing degree and becoming an RN. It’s something that I’m proud of, and I could never have done it without so much support from family and friends.
When I was my kids’ ages, I already had two little ones, trying to raise kids through a bumpy relationship. Like most parents, I did my best.
But the fact that my kids still like to hang out now and then, watching anime and eating pizza, and inventing board games, makes me think that I must have done something right.
How about you? Are you doing the same thing your parents were at your age? Or maybe something a little different?
