Life without a computer- can you imagine?
I’d sleep better.
I’d read more.
I wouldn’t be tempted to read news in bed on my phone (which I count as a computer).
If I didn’t have a computer, there’s a lot I would gain. But the flip side is that I would lose out on information and connection. During COVID, my family spent so much time on discord. I met with my kids at online concerts. We had zoom birthday parties. We ran around playing Minecraft together.
At work, I rely on my computer immensely. I work with high-risk medications, requiring dual RN checks in addition to scans. The scanning partially takes away human error, ensuring that the right person is getting the right chemotherapy. I wouldn’t want to give that up for my patients, and I’m sure they wouldn’t either!
When I go camping, I have a taste of what it’s like to live without a computer. I can sit around a fire instead, watching trees sway in the wind, or chipmunks run around in the morning. On our last trip, I spent a good deal of time watching inchworms. It wasn’t quite the same as Instagram, but I’d argue it was better for my mental health.
