Let’s Boil an Egg-Snowstorm Style

I had no idea that there were so many ways to boil an egg, mostly based on how you want it to turn out- soft-boiled, hard-boiled, etc. But I’ve been on this hard-boiled egg kick. It’s one of the easiest grab-and-go high protein foods for me, especially at breakfast time. And I need breakfast to be a complete no-brainer. It has to be easier than easy. No thought required. An egg will have around 6 grams of protein, give or take, and about 80 calories. So one or two eggs, some fruit, some almonds, my coffee, and I’m good.

I used to just throw my eggs into a pot with water, and one or two of the eggs would crack, I’d bring it to a boil, let it boil for 5 or 10 minutes, and then let it cool down. The eggs would usually turn out edible. Mostly lol.

But a lot of times the eggs would get that funny green halo around the yolk, meaning they were overdone. So to make my hard-boiled eggs this week I looked to All Recipes for guidance (link below), and I did use their directions- mostly. Also, it’s interesting to note that you can bake your hard-boiled eggs? I guess? I may have to try that some time!

Over the weekend on Snowstorm Sunday, I made my eggs. Here’s my pet cactus rock.

Anyway, I started with my pot, put my eggs in first, then filled with water. If this was really Snowstorm Style I would have used snow. Alas, I did not. This is tap water *cringe*.

After that, I put it on the stove and brought it to a boil. Here’s where I varied just a bit- I brought it to a boil and let it boil for about a minute. Then I shut off the burner and let the eggs on that same burner to contemplate life with the lid on the pot for 10 minutes. (They recommended removing it from heat and then letting it sit with the lid on for 10 minutes, for a hard-boiled egg).

Previously, I’ve had instances where my eggs haven’t set when I tried removing the eggs from heat at the 10 minute mark and running cold water over them immediately. Maybe they were extra big?

Then my eggs were done: just need a rinse and then I put them in the fridge.

I’ve been eating them all week.

Saturday, the day before the snow hit I spent some time at my kids’ and got to see my favorite cat who is a rescue and the sweetest cat ever. She used to be a little cautious around me but has warmed up so much! She is adorable.

Just as I left my kids’ place I got a ticket for being parked on the snow emergency route. Hours before the snowstorm hit! Oh well, at least I didn’t get towed. ๐Ÿ˜›
