Do you think you can be both?

It’s like saying you love the beach and the mountains, which also describes me to a tee.

My favorite animals are cats and dogs.

I love cats because of their personalities. They are soft. The ones that I’ve had over the years love sitting on you or next to you.

Dogs on the other hand, are like having an instant buddy who wants to spend all of their time at your side.

After my ex-husband and I split up, I kept our family cat and dog so that the kids still had their pets. Over the years, things changed as they always do- we downsized. Put the cat in boarding for a couple months because I could no longer have pets. Then the cat went to college with my son. She ended up at their Dad’s when COVID hit and college closed. And then back with the kids until last year when she had to be put down.

Our dog had to be put down last year too… he ended up living with their Dad once I had gone back to school and was away from home a lot.

It’s hard putting down a pet. And even though I didn’t have “custody” of either one of our family pets at the end, it was still sad to hear about the dog (Shep), and also the cat (Midnight).

Midnight was spicy when she was young. She got very mellow the older she got. She loved sticking her paws in glasses of water and knocking them over if she could. She loved to sit outside closed doors and meow underneath them and I swear it sounded like she was saying hello.

Shep was a busy-body. He took a lot of work! We got a trainer for a while to help us with him. The dog trainer was a life-saver. She came to our house for 3 sessions. It wasn’t very expensive, but was worth every penny we spent. She gave us a solid plan for our dog and told us to please call her if we were ever feeling like we could not handle him any more and were feeling like we had to give him up. We never did. He was a good boy. Even when he wasn’t. He liked eating sticks of butter and anything else he could get his paws on.

Shep and Midnight didn’t get along very well when they were young, but got better the older they got. They were good pets. Now my kids have their own cat. She is a sweetie, likes to chatter, and has gorgeous eyes.
