- Use a sleep mask/sleep in a dark room. A mask is a cheaper way to block out the light if you can’t get black out curtains right away. Try a couple to see which feels best for sleep. Blinds plus curtains make it darker than either on their own.
- Background noise! This could be a sound machine, a fan, white noise of some type.
- Ear plugs. Highly recommend these, especially if you need to block out background noises or a noisy co-sleeper.
- Keep it cool. I keep it cool but will often use an electric blanket which is very cozy.
- Brain dump before bed- write stuff out so it’s not in your head. Journaling before bed helps me review the day and helps my brain switch off.
- Have a bedtime routine/good sleep hygiene. Give yourself time to wind down and get ready for bed.
- Drink a soothing beverage.
- Try melatonin.
- Use aromatherapy- lavender is a good one. ๐
- Watch what (and when) you eat and drink. No alcohol too close to bed, and stay away from heavy meals right before you go to sleep.
