- Breathe. If you’re stressed, you may be breathing shallowly. Take a deep breath in through your nose to the count of 3, hold for 3, exhale through your mouth to the count of 3, hold for 3. Repeat 5 times.
- Go for a walk- even if it’s just around the building at work! Stepping away from a stressful situation can give you a mental break. If you can get outside, that may be even better.
- Drink a glass of water. Are you hydrated? Drinking water can help.
- Phone-a-friend. Self-explanatory. Talking to someone can get us out of our head.
- Journal. This can help get those thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Sometimes this is useful.
- Have a snack. Crunchy carrots and celery are good stress snacks!
- Get some exercise- this goes beyond the walk around the building or the block. Think something that will make you sweat.
- Aromatherapy- think relaxing scents. Lavender comes to mind. Diffusers are great, or even a little on pulse points can help.
- Watch a favorite show- maybe this is a lighthearted show, but perhaps you’re more action-oriented. Whatever it is, watching some TV can help take your mind off things.
- Clean something. This is a great stress-reliever and you have something to show for it afterwards!
