10 Ways to De-Stress Right Now

  1. Breathe. If you’re stressed, you may be breathing shallowly. Take a deep breath in through your nose to the count of 3, hold for 3, exhale through your mouth to the count of 3, hold for 3. Repeat 5 times.
  2. Go for a walk- even if it’s just around the building at work! Stepping away from a stressful situation can give you a mental break. If you can get outside, that may be even better.
  3. Drink a glass of water. Are you hydrated? Drinking water can help.
  4. Phone-a-friend. Self-explanatory. Talking to someone can get us out of our head.
  5. Journal. This can help get those thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Sometimes this is useful.
  6. Have a snack. Crunchy carrots and celery are good stress snacks!
  7. Get some exercise- this goes beyond the walk around the building or the block. Think something that will make you sweat.
  8. Aromatherapy- think relaxing scents. Lavender comes to mind. Diffusers are great, or even a little on pulse points can help.
  9. Watch a favorite show- maybe this is a lighthearted show, but perhaps you’re more action-oriented. Whatever it is, watching some TV can help take your mind off things.
  10. Clean something. This is a great stress-reliever and you have something to show for it afterwards!
